Exploring Innovation: Twin4Promis at VIB Tech Transfer Course in Ghent

We are thrilled to announce that our team recently participated in the VIB Tech Transfer Training Course, which took place from August 26th to August 30th, 2024, at the VIB in Ghent. This training offered a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of technology transfer and its practical applications.

Notably, Mrs. Ioanna Petrohilou, Administrative Director at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, attended the course as part of the Twin4Promis initiative. The event provided an in-depth exploration of how scientific discoveries are transformed into real-world solutions. Key topics included patent protection, the development of biotech startups, and the process of turning research into viable products and innovations.

Throughout the course, we gained invaluable insights into VIB’s comprehensive approach to technology transfer. The VIB Innovation & Business team shared their expertise in securing patents, crafting strategic intellectual property plans, forming industry partnerships, licensing innovations, and supporting spin-off companies. We were particularly impressed by VIB’s track record, which includes managing over 250 active patent families, establishing more than 1500 industry partnerships, generating €130 million in industrial revenue, and facilitating the creation of 36 dynamic spin-offs. Additionally, we learned about the role of VIB Discovery Sciences in de-risking small molecules and antibodies to enhance their appeal to biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

As a highlight, after five intense days, an independent jury reviewed the pitches and awarded the Pitching Award to one of the projects. We are delighted to share that Mrs. Ioanna Petrohilou was part of the winning team! Congratulations to all involved!

In alignment with Twin4Promis goals, we maximized this opportunity to enhance our knowledge and strengthen our technology transfer capabilities. We are eager to apply these insights to advance our mission and contribute to innovation in our field.

To further our commitment to knowledge and training, Twin4Promis, in collaboration with the National Hellenic Research Foundation and VIB, will host an online Tech Transfer seminar on October 2nd. Registrations for this seminar, led by the VIB Innovation & Business team, are open here.

In conclusion, participating in the VIB Tech Transfer Training Course has been an exceptional experience, enriching our understanding of how to transform scientific innovations into real-world solutions. The insights gained will significantly enhance our technology transfer capabilities and drive our future projects. Our congratulations to Mrs. Ioanna Petrohilou and her team for their achievement and look forward to furthering our mission through the upcoming Tech Transfer seminar!
